When the budget was presented in the Parliament on 1 February 2024, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave the highest importance to the housing scheme apart from many important schemes of the Government of India. During this, he also mentioned the strategy of the Government of India regarding the housing scheme.

What is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
First of all, let me clarify one thing that Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is not a new scheme, before Shri Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India, this scheme was known as Indira Awas Yojana. But the beneficiaries of that scheme were very few.
When Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Indira Awas Yojana was renamed as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in 2016 and the work of the scheme started with great enthusiasm. Between 2016 and 2020, this scheme has benefited many people in rural and urban areas.
The lockdown in India as well as in the rest of the world had hindered progress. Therefore, along with various government schemes, the housing scheme also took a back seat. Currently, before the Lok Sabha elections, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented many updates and important strategies of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to the public.
Objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
As I said earlier, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched in 2016, with the aim of providing all the poor people of India who do not have pucca houses, and those who have broken roofs, the facility to build their own houses by 2022. Have to provide.
Later, along with other government schemes, this scheme also could not be successful in the stipulated time, but it cannot be denied that before this, most of the people of rural and Sahara areas had got the benefit of PM Awas Yojana.
If we look at the government figures, we will find that till now about 3 crore families have got the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. At present, the government aims to provide benefits of this scheme to 2 crore more families by 2025.
So broadly the objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is to provide permanent houses to all the poor families of India but there are some conditions in it. Which we will discuss below.
